Ryo Kinoshita’s experimental metalcore project, KNOSIS, has been teasing an album for over a year and this Summer, fans will finally be able to hear it. On their official X account, the band announced that their first full-length album titled GENKNOSIS releases on August 1, 2025.
The album will be the band’s first physical release. A CD version and two limited edition vinyl editions are available for pre-order on the SharpTone Records online store. Fans in Europe can pre-order the CD and the clear vinyl from Impericon.
The album will also be available on streaming platforms. Pre-save it on Spotify or Apple Music here.
Although much of the track list will look familiar to longtime KNOSIS fans, Ryo assured the crowd at their April 11 show in Tokyo that the songs have been remastered and remixed, resulting in something entirely new. At the same show, he explained that the album’s title, GENKNOSIS, means “Generation KNOSIS”. The name references the Bible’s first book, Genesis, as this album represents the first book of KNOSIS.
The second track, SHINMON, was released alongside a music video on April 10. This is the second song KNOSIS has put out under American label SharpTone Records since signing with them last year, following FUHAI featuring Yukina from “HANABIE.”.
Ryo isn’t shy about his love for the video game Elden Ring, from which he draws a lot of inspiration—so much so that narration from the game is used as an intro to several songs when they’re played live. That influence continues to be present on this album, especially on DOKUNUMA (“poison swamp” in English), a song that Ryo has mentioned being about struggling through tribulations, which he likened to entering dangerous territory—like a poison swamp in Elden Ring—in the hope of finding a cool item. The payoff may be legendary, or it could just be a mushroom, but the important thing is persevering and overcoming those difficulties without losing spirit.
GENKNOSIS brings together talent from across the global metal scene. The lyrics were written by Ryo Kinoshita and Yosh Morita of Survive Said The Prophet, with production handled by Morita’s own Hideout Studios. Mixing was done by renowned metal producers Buster Odeholm, who also mastered the album, and Chris Kelly. The artwork was created by Tom Byrne, vocalist of the Australian band Galleons. With a lineup like this, GENKNOSIS is set to be an international metal masterpiece not to be missed.
