New visual kei band OSHABURI (おしゃぶり) has released their first mini-album Sasshohenaikainjoron (擦傷偏愛感情論) digitally on June 28. The mini-album was previously only available physically from live shows, but finally fans across the world can indulge in OSHABURI’s unique artistic expression. In seven short tracks, OSHABURI unleashes pure childlike chaos.
A brief music box intro track leading into cute aggression (キュートアグレッション) opens Sasshohenaikainjoron. Both of these tracks are present in the music video for cute aggression. For those new to OSHABURI, the music video below showcases their unique childlike visuals. The action-packed music aligns with the visuals. Vocalist Rika’s (りか) cute, childish vocal tones glide throughout the whole track. Compositionally, cute aggression sounds as if it came straight from a child’s imagination; at every turn, it’s fast, chaotic, and playful.
The whole mini-album, with the exception of yugenshosu (有限小数), maintains chaotic arrangements in every moment. Bright, colorful synths overlay the heavy guitar and bass work from guitarist Ill (イル), guitarist Zeno (ゼノ), and bassist Kaeru (カエル). Every minute of Sasshohenaikainjoron is playful chaos evocative of childlike imagination. As mentioned previously, yugenshosu stands out heavily and is the closest to a ballad amongst all of the tracks. yugenshosu leans heavily into a European sound, and despite its slower tempo, it still remains fun and playful.
If OSHABURI is a new name to you within visual kei, consider checking them out. Their childish chaos is infectious, and with their first mini-album, Sasshohenaikainjoron, coming in at just under 20 minutes, the discovery will be short and sweet.
