Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MIKU EXPO 2021 is taking place this year at Hatsune Miku’s hometown, the internet! After a successful crowdfunding campaign, reaching 245% of its initial goal of 25 million yen, MIKU EXPO 2021 is finally taking shape this weekend on June 6 and it’s free to watch!

The main concert brings a setlist of 16 songs and will be streamed on three occasions over Twitch and YouTube. The content of these three shows is identical and serves as a way for people in different time zones to take part.

Similar to past real-life MIKU EXPOs, the main event is run in conjunction with sub-event such as:

  • Miku World Gallery, featuring social media posts using the hashtag #MikuWorldGallery. Check it out here!
  • Let’s Paint 3.0, where you can digitally paint a 3D Miku online.
  • Digital Stars, consisting of performances by Vocaloid producers from all over the world.

You can expect some fan-favorite, Japanese Vocaloid producers to perform at Digital Stars, like PinocchioP and Utsu-P. From the US side, we have “Flanger Moose” and “Tokyo Elvis“. And lastly from Europe, “Vault Kid” and “KIRA“.

Notably, KIRA is the producer who granted this year’s upbeat MIKU EXPO theme song titled Highlight. For its music video, Ekkoberry provided its art, while riguruma helped with the animation, making this a borderless collaboration between Germany, New Zealand, and Russia, respectively.
