Two of the biggest forces in anime, Aimer and amazarashi, join the lineup of sci-fi anime NieR:Automata Ver1.1a with their new theme songs, escalate and Antinomy, respectively.
The anime, which started airing on January 8, is an adaptation of the critical acclaimed role-playing game NieR:Automata. The game is directed by Yoko Taro and was first released in 2017, it is part of the NieR series.
Aimer’s opening theme song “escalate”
Aimer’s 21st single escalate joins as the opening theme song, one that embraces the pain and despair of the main protagonist “2B”.
The digital pre-release of the song was made available for download and streaming on the day the anime started airing, with physical distribution planned for March 1.
You can now watch the 90-second opening sequence from the anime here.
amazarashi’s ending theme song “Antinomy”
amazarashi contributes with the ending theme song Antinomy (アンチノミー), exploring the moral mind of black and white, or rather, the blurry gray zone in-between.
Frontman Hiromu Akita is well-known for exploring philosophical ideas through his music, many times, within the areas of nihilism and existentialism. The same type of thought-provoking ideas are also found in Nier:Automata, so it is no surprise that Hiromu Akita calls himself a fan of the game.
amazarashi has previously worked with NieR:Automata to output the collaboration single, Inochi ni Fusawashii (Deserving of Life), and downloadable content for the game itself, back in 2017.
The single Antinomy won’t be out until February 22, but the digital pre-release will begin on January 15. Until then, here’s a short clip of the song found in the NieR:Automata Ver1.1a promotional video.
