King Gnu released GO GHOST, the opening theme song of the anime THE GHOST IN THE SHELL on July 29. The track is now available on digital platforms, including a music video on the band’s YouTube channel.
The band blended hip-hop rhythms with a synthetic soundscape, a nod to the anime’s core themes about artificial life. The music video expands on the retro-futuristic aesthetic, mixing anime scenes with a vintage color palette.
Daiki Tsuneta, founder and leader of King Gnu, also collaborated on Blue, the anime’s ending theme song, through MILLENNIUM PARADE, his other musical project. The release of both the opening and ending songs marks the first time that King Gnu and MILLENNIUM PARADE worked on the same anime production.
About King Gnu
King Gnu is composed of Daiki Tsuneta (vocals and guitar), Yu Seki (drums and samples), Kazuki Arai (bass), and Satoru Iguchi (vocals and keyboard). Since their formation in April 2017, the band has gained attention with their unique blend of alternative rock dubbed “Tokyo New Mixture Style”.
The band gained global attention with Ichizu and Sakayume, the opening and ending themes of the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 in 2021. Following their work on the film, they also performed SPECIALZ, the opening theme of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, which surpassed 100 million streams in just two and a half months. Recently, the band also performed AIZO, the opening theme of Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game Part 1.
