Reol’s latest music video Mutant from the recent mini-album Dai Rokkan—without sugarcoating it—is somewhat depressing. But on the contrary, we are overjoyed to see movie creator Okiku contributing again through her music video directing! Together with Reol (れをる) and Giga, Okiku used to be part of the three-person unit “REOL” (レヲル).

You will find that the music video itself isn’t that eventful, but as we interpret it, it helps elevate the real climax which sits behind the curtains—behind the lyrics and Reol’s splendid vocal performance.

The song seemingly conveys a story about an unhealthy relationship from one person’s perspective. A wavy relationship where two keep drifting apart, being everchanging, to the point of becoming mutants.

Adding to the lineup this time around, the one who provided the hypnotizing text animation was POPREQ, while illustrator Hotei 9 included the alluring illustration. And last but not least, the song was co-written by Reol and Geek Boy Al Swettenham.
