Fukuro disbands after five years amid Yoshiatsu allegations

On November 4, the piano rock visual kei band Fukuro (梟) announced its disbandment following the allegations against vocalist Yoshiatsu.

After Yoshiatsu announced that he would be taking a break from all creative endeavors following the allegations made against him, the future of his two collaborative projects, DRUGS and Fukuro, became unclear. While DRUGS disbanded on October 2 after their final performance, a return of Fukuro still seemed a possibility. However, after internal discussions among band members, Fukuro decided that the breakdown of trust was so severe that ending activities was the best option. The news was delivered on November 4 with statements posted on the band’s media channels in both Japanese and English.

The statement from Fukuro details a breakdown of trust between members before the allegations of Yoshiatsu came to light. Continuing, the band expressed their devotion in attempting to rebuild relations but at last decided to dismiss Yoshiatsu. With the philosophy that Fukuro follows, with each and every member being crucial for the continuation of creative activities, Yoshiatsu’s dismissal regretfully came with an end to Fukuro. The statement ends with the band expressing their deepest gratitude towards fans for five years of love and support.

Additionally, members pianist Daisuke, bassist Yutara, and drummer Lotto shared messages on their social channels expressing their heartbreak over the loss of Fukuro. All members applauded their five years of hard work, truly believing that they made something special. Daisuke voiced his dissatisfaction over a messy goodbye to fans. Lotto showed gratitude with the power of music bringing people together without boundaries. Finally, Yutara expressed regret for being unable to take Fukuro to even greater heights.

The band’s official store, Fukuro Shouten, will close at the end of the month on November 30. Additionally, Fukuro’s fan club, CLUB BAKEMONO, will accept new memberships and membership renewals until November 30 and will close down completely at the end of the year on December 31. While the news of disbandment is disheartening, all of Fukuro’s musical work will remain available on streaming services and their official YouTube channel. With one full album, four mini-albums, acoustic albums, and a collection of singles, Fukuro’s unique piano rock flavor has left a mark on the visual kei scene, both domestically and internationally.

Fukuro’s official disbandment notice

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of Fukuro.

We would once again like to extend our sincere apologies to everyone involved who has been inconvenienced or concerned by the indefinite hiatus announced on July 6, and above all, to all of our fans who have continued to support us.

During the discussions within the band leading up to the decision to go on hiatus, the relationship of trust between Yoshiatsu and the other members had already begun to deteriorate. At that time, some members believed that Yoshiatsu should be dismissed from the band; however, this was not yet a unanimous decision among the members of Fukuro.

We therefore chose to take time apart to reconsider what Fukuro should be as a band, with the aim of rebuilding the trust of our fans and everyone involved, while also considering whether there might still be a way for the four of us to resume our activities together as Fukuro.

After this period of hiatus, we began making arrangements for a meeting involving all members to discuss the future of the band. However, we were unable to recover a genuine mutual trust among the members, we have concluded that it is no longer possible for Fukuro to continue its activities with Yoshiatsu as a member.

In light of all of the above, the remaining three members have unanimously decided to dismiss Yoshiatsu from the band.

Furthermore, given that Fukuro will be without its frontman, who has written the lyrics for all of our works, and that since the band’s formation we have held the belief that it would be difficult to continue if even one member were no longer part of the band, Fukuro will officially disband as of today.

To all of our fans and everyone who has supported Fukuro throughout the approximately five years since our formation, we, the members of Fukuro, sincerely apologize that this is the announcement we must make.

In particular, we deeply regret that we are unable to fulfill the hopes of those who wished for our return and have continued to wait for us until today.

Finally, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has cherished Fukuro’s music and our activities throughout the years.
