gulu gulu showcased their mini-album gulu gulu Ryuushutsu Ongen Shuu with a preview before its release. That was far from the end though as now the band revealed the music video for the closing sixth track “Oyasumi.”.
Set in a mansion, the band performs the dreamy but dark composition, lending itself well to vocalist Ai’s high pitched and almost haunting vocals, creating the lullaby-focused rock song we’ve always wanted.
What really brings out their fantastical fairytale-like sound in full force is Ai’s lyrics using an alternate version of the lullaby Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, nursery rhyme Tick Tock Tick Tock, and the counting of sheep.
Black-and-white and psychedelic hues also fill the screen as each member plays their respective instrument in various rooms. Scenes include a woman sitting up in bed who seems to be having trouble sleeping with pills in her hand. Then soon after we see Ai bandaging over the woman’s eyes, correlating with the bandages over his head.
All of these elements lends itselfΒ brilliantly to the atmosphere, especially with the name of the song, Oyasumi. meaning “Goodnight” in Japanese. This, along with being based on Ai’s real-life experience, makes it all the more effective.
