JROCK NEWS is proud to serve as the official English translator for music for the anime One Piece! We penned the English version of the ending theme PUNKS by electronic-infused pop project CHAMELEON LIME WHOOPIEPIE. PUNKS began closing out episodes 1139 and onward starting August 10. In the weeks prior to the song’s airing, CHAMELEON LIME WHOOPIEPIE’s artist team approached JROCK NEWS to help spread PUNKS for anime fans and eager listeners across the globe.
We’re elated to have left our mark on a piece of anime history. This is our inaugural credit as official translator for anime tie-in music, and what grander epic than One Piece to break into the scene. Fans of the tune can rock out with CHAMELEON LIME WHOOPIEPIE vocalist Chi- in the original full-length music video for PUNKS on YouTube. Make sure to set captions to English!
Note the proper credit of JROCK NEWS toward the bottom of the video description of PUNKS on YouTube, just below the English lyric transcript!

PUNKS’ spunky, sugar-high blitz has been the perfect fit for the Egghead Arc of the final saga, in which hero Luffy and his Straw Hat crew meet scientist Dr. Vegapunk on the titular futuristic island. If you haven’t already, be sure to catch the TV-length cut of PUNKS below.
Lyrical translations present a unique scenario requiring the translator to connect both linguistically and culturally, all within the finite real estate of the music. At the same time, our translation aimed to retain as much of the writer’s own voice and intent. Suffice to say, it has been a total joy to work with a rising Jpop star CHAMELEON LIME WHOOPIEPIE and help spread her colors throughout the world.
Let us know what you think of the song and One Piece‘s Egghead Arc in the comments section. Our team certainly looks forward to further opportunities to help spread Jpop and Jrock lyrics to the English-speaking audience.
