From left to right: Guitarist Gina, vocalist Mio, and guitarist Sally.

Please introduce yourself to our readers!

Mio: I’m Mio from Mellows!

Sally: I’m Sally, the guitarist on the right.

Gina: I’m Gina, the guitarist on the left.

Mio, Sally, Gina: Thanks for having us!

Have you performed overseas? What was the experience like?

Mio: I haven’t played overseas with Mellows, but I have performed overseas before. I’ve been to quite a few places, like Shanghai, Taiwan, and France. I think I’ve been to some other places, but I forgot where.

Sally: So that’s Asia and Europe! You’ve been to quite a few places.

Mio: Yeah, I have, haven’t I? This was when I was an idol, but we, Mellows, hasn’t been overseas yet as a band, but we’d like to go.

How about you two? [Have your performed overseas before?]

Gina: Never.

Sally: I’ve been to London, right before Corona happened. It was a gathering of people in Europe who are fans of Japanese heavy metal.

Mio: Oh, nice! The home of music!

Gina: I’d like to go to Europe. I’ve been there on vacation, but never performed there. People from Europe come to see us perform, they come all the way to Japan to see us, so I’d like to go there too.

Mio: A lot of people from a lot of different countries come to see us, so we think it’s our turn next! We want to go to many different places.

Could you share a pivotal moment in your musical career?

Mio: I think, when you’re talking about your own band, it’s difficult to say what counts as “success”, right? It becomes, “What is success?”, right? When you start to get into it and dig deep, the answer gets pretty long.

We really could talk for a long time, but for me, I think there are aspects of Mellows that are still imperfect, but in life, and in creative pursuits, I don’t think anything is ever really perfect. I do think that some art shouldn’t be perfect. I think we’d be alright if we continue to live imperfectly, and at the same time, I think it’s hard to pinpoint what “success” is for us. You get me?

If you all think “Ah, that’s an achievement!” then that’s great, like, getting more famous, playing at a big venue, or appearing on TV. When those things happen, you’ll be the first to think that. That’s not something we can say for ourselves! Come on!

We’ll try our best to become people who can, though!

As JROCK NEWS celebrates its 10th anniversary, would you like to share any thoughts?

Mio: Firstly, JROCK NEWS, congratulations!

Mio, Sally, Gina: Congratulations!

Mio: Ten years is impressive, that’s quite long! You’re 10 years old, you can walk and talk to people, and even speak politely.

It’s time you start thinking about your future. You’re also at the age where thinking about death is a little scary, too, and learning morals.

Gina: JROCK NEWS has—not just for Mellows, but for other things I’m involved with too—been writing articles about us, which helps people find us, and listen to us.

I first met JROCK NEWS during the pandemic, which was a great time to connect with people from overseas, so I’m really thankful. I hope that they continue working hard in the future.

On a personal note, Laura, let’s grab drinks! Let’s go!

Please share a message to the overseas fans.

Mio: Since we released the music video for “Himitsu closet”, people from overseas have been watching us. There’s been a bunch of reaction videos and everything. Thanks to that, people have traveled for hours to come and see us. We’re so grateful. We’ll do our best to keep making cute, amazing metal music to match your expectations.

We’re putting it all out there, and one day, we’ll jump on a plane and see you! We want to come and perform for you, so wait for us, okay!

What projects or upcoming activities are you currently working on?

Mio: Mellows will be releasing our second album on June 6, 2026!

Albums take a long time to create; it’s like giving birth to a child. You spend time cultivating it. It’s our second album, packed with cuteness and metal. You’re probably wondering how it will be.

We’ve been thinking really hard about what type of music and what type of cute metal we want to bring you while we craft it. We hope you give it a listen. So, please look forward to June 6!

We’ve been Mellows!

Mio, Sally, Gina: Thank you so much!
