BABYMETAL makes its first appearance on the YouTube channel THE FIRST TAKE with the performance of Monochrome. As the name of the channel implies, it is “dedicated to shooting musicians and singers performing in a single take”.
SU-METAL and MOAMETAL take the floor in the studio that normally is surrounded by white, but in this case, the backdrop is dark as charcoal. It seemingly plays in with the concept of Ragnarök, the mythological Norse apocalypse, which the lyrics are about. The same concept is also tightly tied to its album concept that we find in the upcoming release, THE OTHER ONE. Besides that, from the perspective of BABYMETAL’s brand, we see that it is also a great fit!
Notably, the arrangement of Monochrome performed at THE FIRST TAKE is called “Piano ver.” which arrangement was provided by Hatamiya Kota (HATAMIYAMETAL). Instrumentally, it features only piano and strings instruments, and is slower paced. That is, compared to the original version composed and arranged by Yuyoyuppe (YUPPEMETAL) which takes a rock and metal oriented approach.
Further into the video, a three-person choir makes an appearance, concealed in white robes, they back up MOAMETAL’s vocals. As of writing, it has not been revealed who these three individuals are.
