Last month in May, DEXCORE simultaneously welcomed bassist kai to the band and released the music video for its single Red eye. Now that we are in June, they have revealed yet another music video for a new digital single Self-Hatred, releasing on July 2.
The song title alone and the silence at the start of the video allow us time for the introspection with poignant lyrics delving further into the matter. Combined with dissonant guitars, chunky riffs, and a symphonic accompaniment amongst other elements, and we have a match made in metal heaven.
The music video has each member spaced out from one another with a spotlight beaming down on them as they let loose, expelling that explosive energy displayed in the song. This is while engaging visualizations play on the massive screen behind them and cuts to a female character walking, facing the demons inside of her. Vocalist kagami appears from time to time and is a guide of sorts who helps her along when needed most.
The lyrics start off negative as if nothing can save the main character with lyrics like “The thing I hate the most, That’s ‘ME'” or “It’s too late, I would rather die, I’m tired of this kind of words”. However, that soon changes as it transitions to lyrics of positive reinforcement such as “I decided to be a different person, Not sure it’s right. That made me want to see myself in the past. I just wanted relief”.
What elevates the song even more so is the soundwave of a heartbeat with kagami putting his microphone against his chest on the area around his heart. You can also see a glimpse of an illustrated version of the [METEMPSYCHOSIS.] album cover on the screen behind.
Self-Hatred is definitely a worthy addition to DEXCORE’s discography, so make sure to pick it up digitally on July 2.
