Previously Arlequin previewed their August 19 album The laughing man, giving us an idea of what to expect. Now, we have a visual representation with the music video for In The Mirror. Here we see vocalist Aki and otherworldly entity ominously strung up like marionettes, while a sinister being dances in a captivating, trance-like manner.
The eerie and mysterious music video begins with the light and dark entity encountering each other by the storefront seen in Arlequin’s artist photo. This transitions to the black entity engaging in interpretive dance while the white one is connected by ropes from above. These same ropes are attached to a restless Aki as he twists and turns while gesticulating. Creative scenes of Aki’s silhouette against a projection of the vocalist not only makes for a dynamic experience but is also a treat for those who want to appreciate his finer details.
How In The Mirror matches the visuals is in its mysteriousness, mainly with the intro and outro, but apart from that, it’s pretty run-of-the-mill. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad song, though. Their songs will usually grab me, and I would gravitate towards one or more of the instruments, but here, it falls flat, unfortunately.
