Matenrou Opera (摩天楼オペラ) will release its EP, Chronos, on April 22. As the date draws near a music video preview comes too, as well as snippets of each song. We touched briefly on the theme of the EP, which turns out to be a love story focused on two lovers from start to finish.
The title, Chronos, refers to the progression of their relationship over time, while the cover art depicts the god of time himself. The story tells of the lovers’ first encounter, their separation and what follows after. As for the music, each song is fresh yet familiar, and robust with sonorous vocals and heavy, melodic instrumentals.
The short but bittersweet opus is somewhat new territory for vocalist Sono. “Writing lyrics through the eyes of one character throughout the album was a first for me”, he explained. However, he didn’t say if the character is “Chronos” or not. The final piece of the puzzle is likely in the sorrowful and beautiful lyrics telling the story.
Matenrou Opera’s Chronos TOUR 2020 is still scheduled to start on May 6, as of writing. The 19-stop tour ends on July 24, at Shinjuku BLAZE. Visit the band’s tour page for more details and ticket information.
