Fukuro revealed the highly anticipated single CHOCOLATE WAR on May 19 with an accompanying music video. The new song, available digitally worldwide, and visuals showcase a darker side to the band as they outpour emotions linked to current world events.

The music video for CHOCOLATE WAR was created in collaboration with crap dolly and surrounds Fukuro in dangerous imagery. Darkness encases the whole experience with only a single spotlight highlighting the chaotic choreography of each band member as they play their chocolate instruments. Vocalist Yoshiatsu dances erratically to the beat while handling chocolate firearms. As the track progresses, the newly “chocolatifed” instruments begin to melt, perhaps to show the fragility of the sweet things in life.

CHOCOLATE WAR takes Fukuro’s self-attributed piano rock label and takes it to a heavy extreme both musically and lyrically. Daisuke’s fast staccato piano riffage throughout the verses demonstrates a style of heaviness unique to Fukuro, mimicking metalcore verses without the buzzing distorted guitars or ferocious screams. A straight bass groove by Yutara maintains the heaviness of the verses as Yoshiatsu’s vocals drift into grief. CHOCOLATE WAR‘s bittersweet chorus takes your breath away with Yoshiatsu’s sweet melodies contradicted by harrowing lyrics, which continue to rise in intensity after every repeat.

The lyrics behind CHOCOLATE WAR, provided in English in the music video, are inspired by current world events, and verse after verse, intensity rises as Yoshiatsu pours his heart into the delivery.
