The all-new South Korean visual kei band DEAD BOY have revealed themselves to the world. After a logo teaser on May 4 with the anticipatory words “coming soon”, May 12 finally revealed the lineup: vocalist Yoel, guitarists KAMI and Darae, bassist Dong Hwan Kim, and drummer 242. DEAD BOY will be joining artists like Madmans Esprit and Clownus under the label nO aUTHORITY.
DEAD BOY is fronted by vocalist Yoel, who has a wealth of experience within the Asian music scene. Some notable examples include providing drums, music, and video assistance for the idol groups NEKIRU and LuciDreaM as well as guitar and vocals for the rock band MYORI. Yoel’s experience also extends to the visual kei scene, acting as a support member for Madmans Esprit before the current lineup and recently working behind the scenes to capture promotional material. Yoel’s music expertise can be found throughout his personal YouTube channel, while his film portfolio can be seen on his alternative X profile YoeLog.
Joining Yoel are guitarists KAMI and Darae, with Darae also having experience in NEKIRU and LuciDreaM, providing guitar. Additionally, bassist Dong Hwan Kim and drummer 242 make up the rhythm section.
Music video debut
DEAD BOY showcased their first taste of music with DeAd DreAm on May 20. The track begins as a solid metal track, but the longer you listen, the more unexpected surprises show up.
Yoel demonstrates so many unique vocal styles in such a small amount of time, ranging from ferocious yells and brutal low growls to glistening synthetic cleans and operatic bellows. The unity of KAMI and Darae guitars echoes with power, especially during the breakdowns. The rumble of Dong Hwan Kim’s bass and thunderous drums performed by 242 create such a heavy rhythm throughout DeAd DreAm. Electronic elements breathe more life into the track, whether by adding groove to the chorus or through an eccentric synth solo played by Yoel.
DeAd DreAm will be released as a single on June 11.
DEAD BOY will be making their live debut in South Korea opening for Madmans Esprit on June 28. Both international and South Korean domestic tickets are available in the links at the bottom of the page. If the new band sounds interesting, and you have the opportunity to visit South Korea, the addition of Madmans Esprit only sweetens the deal.
