The year 2025 saw former “cocklobin” vocalist “nigu” and his solo project, HEROINE from the Nether, release their first album titled MIDNIGHT on April 23, with the title also serving as the concept. However, it wasn’t until recently that the project revealed the full music video for the title track and fifth song, MIDNIGHT.
In a house within the snowy serene wilderness, an elderly woman lays down recalling the routine of a young ballerina dancing. It could even be inferred that she is reminiscing about her time as a ballerina as she tries the routine herself.
Amplifying such scenery is particle effects, color palette, airy soundscape, a funky instrumentation, and vocalist nigu sorrowfully waxing lyrical from the confines of his chair.
The music video continuously transitions between the ballerina in a furnished, bright and mostly white room, and the elderly woman in a traditional Japanese house in need of repair. A stark contrast between these two places and women, alongside their respective body language and facial expressions, conveys something that is both beautiful and melancholic.
Working harmoniously with the cinematography is nigu’s distinct vocals and use of vibrato, funky and atmospheric guitar, deep rumbling smooth bass, and serene synths. This is a touching piece of work that brings out the best in both worlds.
The song is described in English in the music video’s description section below:
Midnight.
A city where lights gather
and gazes and desires collide.Butterflies that dance,
moths that are mocked—
the line between them is thin.Chosen, desired,
and eventually forgotten.“MIDNIGHT” is a song of the night,
where prayer and curse resonate together.
Additionally, HEROINE from the Nether will release its fourth single titled MaD., out on January 30, and will feature two songs, the title track and second track Owari no Mada Naku alongside their respective instrumentals.
The day of the singles release, the project will hold a solo performance titled Pray it. Curse it. Love it. Kill it. at WildSide Tokyo in Shinjuku on January 30.
