UVERworld recently released its double A-side collaboration single, Raichoue/SOUL, on September 1. Those involved are actor and vocalist Takayuki Yamada on the song Raichoue, while pop and R’n’B vocalist Thelma Aoyama is on the song SOUL, and lastly, vocalist Aiemu from Tokugawa eq. joins in on both songs.
The band previously revealed their drift car-focused music video for Raichoue featuring vocalists Takayuki Yamada and Aiemu. Now we have the short version of their music video for the party rock anthem SOUL.
The music video SOUL features the ’90s inspired visuals as vocalists Thelma Aoyama and Aiemu perform, alongside UVERworld, at a house party. Surrounded by the dancing attendees with big smiles on their faces, you can see they’re all having a brilliant time.
What makes this music video reminiscent of the ’90s is Thelma Aoyama’s styling with her red bandana, oversized basketball jersey, and ripped jeans but most of all, the VHS visuals mimicking the visual image of camcorders in that decade.
Then there’s the lyrics themselves such as “S to the O to the U to the L” and the layered vocals in the verses. This also triggers off vocalist TAKUYA’s version of his gravelly cookie monster vocals which is a joy to hear.
You can also tell that the atmosphere here is completely different from Raichoue which had a semi-serious feel compared to the upbeat, cheerful, and fun SOUL.
