A new hope has arrived through the second awakening of the half-demon, half-angel “IRyS”. The latest virtual idol singer from the agency “hololive English”—the same family as Mori Calliope and Gawr Gura. Her descendent into the world was made through a livestream on July 11 where she started off by revealing the music video “Caesura of Despair” from the debut EP “||:Caesura of Despair”—before she made her actual appearance on the stream.
IRyS’ debut on YouTube was a huge hit and reached almost 100 thousand concurrent viewers—which is a crazy amount for any streamer—and by now already gained over 1 million total views! Besides her charming personality and interactions that could be seen on Twitter prior to the stream, there were also a bunch of other factors that made her a stand-out character.
The most notable feature that piqued our interest—before the official debut—was in fact that she’s illustrated and designed by redjuice. The same illustrator who is responsible for the art in supercell and EGOIST.

In addition to that, now that the info on the debut EP has been unveiled, we can see that the credited music composers include buzzG and Tom-H@ck. And as one of the arrangers, Yuyoyuppe! This certainly explains why it was so easy for us to get into the groove. But of course, IRyS was also able to captivate us with her sweet and gentle voice that swings back and forth between English and Japanese.

Yuyoyuppe, a well-known musician from the metal Vocaloid scene but has lately been more active under his DJ name “DJ’TEKINA//SOMETHING”, or in the band “Naked Identity Created by King” (N.I.C.K). If you’re a BABYMETAL fan, you can thank him for songs like Megitsune and KARATE.

IRyS, a half-demon, half-angel also known as a Nephilim, once brought hope to “The Paradise” during the ancient age. Her full name is ███████ Irys. This current era, riddled with despair and desperation, has brought upon her second awakening. She has arrived to deliver hope, with her feelings put into her lyrics and songs, and determination in her voice.
Though she tends to retain her Nephilim form, she is still quite young within her race. With emotion and “other factors,” it is possible that her form may lean to either side. When that occurs, she bears a brief change in her appearance.
She does not speak of the events that preceded her second awakening. She faces ever forward, perhaps because she is Hope Incarnate, though no one knows for sure. Or could it be…
