Internationally acclaimed rock vocalist HYDE’s newest single NOSTALGIC dropped on Friday, June 25, marking the start of his Japan tour “20th Orchestra Tour HYDE ROENTGEN 2021”. He also unveiled a teaser for the music video NOSTALGIC.
In the video, HYDE sings passionately on a rocky ridge of limestone overlooking an azure blue sea. He wears a billowing black cloak which is tossed about wildly in the sea breeze. HYDE seems to command the natural elements with his graceful movements, as his voice soars over a gentle coupling of piano and strings.
At first glance, it seems like the crew went overseas to film on the Aegean Sea. Surprisingly, they shot the video in Japan, in HYDE’s hometown! The location is Shirasaki Ocean Park in Wakayama prefecture. The park boasts robust views, featuring vibrant blue waters and cliffs of natural limestone.
If it looks dangerous, it was—the production crew needed special permission to film in an off-limits area! Some of the shots which capture HYDE in the prohibited zone were filmed by drone, creating a solitary atmosphere.
The new digital single hearkens back to HYDE’s first solo album ROENTGEN, the origin of his solo activities. It’s fitting since his current Japan tour, which kicked off in Tokyo on June 25, will recreate songs from that same album. NOSTALGIC is just like its namesake, paying homage to his first solo album released almost 20 years ago.
Not only will HYDE be touring for “20th Orchestra Tour HYDE ROENTGEN 2021”, but he also announced a special two-day event at Heian Shrine in Kyoto, one of Japan’s most important cultural landmarks.
The concert “20th Orchestra Concert 2021 HYDE HEIANJINGU” will celebrate HYDE’s 20 years of performing as a solo artist. Both days are already sold out. However, the two days of performances will also be broadcasted live in movie theaters across Japan and live-streamed worldwide. You can find out how to watch the show online below.
