Develop One’s Faculties released their tenth single titled peace/insomnia on June 2 featuring the two title tracks previously mentioned and their instrumental counterparts. The band followed this up with a music video preview for the song peace where their breezy rooftop performance shows a livelier perspective to an otherwise calming track.

Said music video preview mainly overlooks the fantastic view of a cityscape but the highlight here has to be seeing the band members losing themselves to the music. This is especially so with a punch in the air from bassist Hiromu that opens up to a guitar battle breaking out between asserter yuya and guitarist rui. The desaturated visuals also give it a unique look as the vivid blues, greens, and reds on their outfits pop onscreen.

A reoccurring theme in the preview, much like their artist photo, is asserter yuya laying on the ground but this time, he’s gently playing his guitar. It is also interspersed with blurred scenes of him kneeling over and everything else passing him by as he passionately sings the lyrics.

The band also published a song preview before it dropped showcasing said title tracks that couldn’t be any more different from each other. Here we can listen to the tranquil peace with its calming atmosphere while insomnia portrays a state of restlessness.

Diving deeper into their interpretation of peace is a joyous ballad. From asserter yuya’s clear and calming vocals to the playful sound effects, soothing synths, and deep basslines, beautifully bringing everything together. The animation associated with this section of the preview amplifies the sense of bliss with flying birds and the image of a waterfall.

It then transitions into the chaotic insomnia with its funky, fast, and furious composition. yuya’s vocals are short and quick, and his slap guitar playing style is prevalent here. Then there’s the syncopated drumbeat, the low and high basslines, and the dizzying guitar work. This is possibly how people may interpret insomnia as a sleeping disorder in song form. The animation here lends itself to the theme with black and white visuals, blinking eyes on hands, and squiggly lines creating a never-ending rotating hallway.

It should be noted that despite the tracklist listing the two instrumentals for the title tracks, they were not added to the CD itself and will be sent out at a later date. Unfortunately, overseas purchasers may encounter some issues when trying to find a way to obtain these tracks due to this.

They also revealed artist photos to accompany the single; presenting their iridescent and watercolored outfits as they occupy a barely furnished room.
