LUNA SEA performed for the opening ceremony of GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA at the Yokohama Yamashita Pier as part of the “Mobile Suit Gundam 40th Anniversary Project”. On December 18, the band played the project theme song THE BEYOND from their album CROSS, with a full-scale moving Gundam in the background. See the clip of this performance as well as a brief interview in the video below.
On the day of the performance, lead singer RYUICHI was excited by the sight of the moving Gundam.
“I’ve been into anime since I was a child, especially in world of Gundam. It’s almost unbelievable that a real Gundam is standing right here. It fell from the sky, onto the surface of the Earth, right in Yokohama.”—RYUICHI
“Even though I’m 50 now, when I watch Gundam at home it takes me straight back to being 10 years old again, and before I realise, I’m moved to tears. There’s really no arguing that this kind of raw power, the power to move people, is truly amazing. I think I might defect from Zeon to the Federation, you know.”—Sugizo
If you’d like to visit GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA, the facilities will open for a limited time between December 19, 2020, till March 31, 2022. Mega fans should note that very limited sets of Gunpla “1/200 RX-78F00 Gundam” will be gifted to visitors to commemorate the opening, so hurry as this bonus present will end as soon as the stock runs out. A separate ticket is required for the GUNDAM-DOCK Tower to see the moving Gundam, so make sure to check the ticketing details on their official website before booking.
