MUCC is making good on its promise from 2019 to release album Aku this spring! The band just revealed the tracklist and characteristics of its 15th album, which is said to delve into an array of genres. We can expect to hear elements of rock, goth, punk, alternative, folk, pop, EDM, and psychobilly to name a few. It sounds interesting but we won’t know for sure until it’s released, on May 20!

We can also expect guest appearances from keyboardist Tooru Yoshida and vocalist Hazuki of lynch.! Tooru collaborated with MUCC for its previous album, now he adds his touch to Kurage, while Hazuki’s powerful vocals will be heard on Memai.

Furthermore, Aku will include a remixed version of Amelia and My WORLD, while demo tapes, Jiko Keno and COBALT, were polished up before making their way to the album. Song Sei to Shi to Kimi will also be included, leaving us with a total of 11 new songs.

Aku comes in three editions. The regular edition comes with the CD while the limited edition adds a DVD documenting the recording process and an interview with the band. Finally, the third edition is exclusive to fan club members. It also includes the CD, a 48-page book and an LP-size jacket. Pre-order for the fan club edition ends on March 31, 2020, 23:59 (JST).

In related news, a series of promotional videos will come to MUCC’s YouTube channel. “Week 1” premieres on March 25, at 21:00 JST. The nature of the videos is unspecified, but it will all be relevant to the album. MUCC was forced to cancel its European tour due to the coronavirus pandemic, so hopefully, the album and videos will bring some comfort to disappointed fans.
