YOSHIKI’s kimono project, YOSHIKIMONO, will be featured at London’s prestigious V&A museum for the Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk exhibition. The show will open to the public from this weekend on February 29 till June 21, 2020, and will present the history and culture of the traditional Japanese garment from the 1660s to the present day.

Brining his rock’n’roll sensibility to the show, he will be showcasing his designs alongside famous textiles and fashion designers Kunihiko Moriguchi and Alexander McQueen. The highlight for Star Wars fans includes the original costume designs by John Mollo and Trisha Biggar which were inspired by the kimono.

It’s such an honor to be part of this exhibition. I feel grateful not only for my brand YOSHIKIMONO being part of it, but grateful for the entire kimono industry coming into the spotlight,” said YOSHIKI, the eldest son of kimono creators, who chose his groundbreaking music career instead of taking up the family business. — Yoshiki
