DIMLIM finally released their much-anticipated second album MISC. on January 28 but not without revealing the music video for What’s up ?.
We must warn you now that this video does contain flashing images and could potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy.
The band suits up to showcase their new math rock sound with the usage of negative film and greyscale effects as the members perform the beautifully complex but powerful song. It’s full of staccato and jazzy rhythms with an absence of harsh vocals as vocalist Sho delivers an emotionally charged performance.
What’s up ? is definitely a departure from their previous works such as CHEDOARA which was heavier, presenting its fair share of growls, and dark imagery. However, there were hints to their change in direction as far back as vanitas and took the idea further with their single Rijin. From listening to MISC. already, I can confirm this is not limited to one song but the whole album, establishing their sound going forward.
Its been a year and a half since their previous album CHEDOARA but DIMLIM have made it clear that the music of DIMLIM now is not the same as when they started.
To the listeners of MISC., the band poses the question “What does DIMLIM call ‘essence’?”. They also have a profound statement: “Don’t be influenced by others”, however, will you understand those words when you hear the album?
Have you listened to the album yet? Tell us what you think in the comments!
