Sakanaction released their double-full-length album 834.194 on June 19. It’s been six years. Six ridiculously long years since they have released an album and I prayed that it was going to be breathtaking.
Ever since they revealed the new track Nylon no ito for Calorie Mate to promote their energy bar, I’ve been refreshing Sakanaction’s social media like an addict hunting for every morsel of new material they have breadcrumbed across the web. The Calorie Mate project titled “The person who keeps thinking” (考えつづける人) moves between scenes of Ichiro chasing his creativity in a minimal sand-scape, symbolizing his pursuit and journey in writing music. It’s incredibly poetic visually and musical:
And they have also created their own rendition of the music video which is equally as poetic, but strange in its visuals.
They have a super funky, all singing and dancing Wasurerarenai no music video with palm trees and baggy suits:
Coming back to more information on the two-disc album, 834.194 contains a range of already released tracks, including Shin Takarajima, Tabun, Kaze, Kagero, and as well as new tracks, totaling 18 tracks on the regular edition. The album name, as well as its two CDs have been assigned codes, 834.194, 35 38 52 9000 / 139 41 39 3000 and 43 03 18 9000 / 141 19 17 5000 respectively. In an interview, it was said that the meaning of this number will be clarified through the upcoming arena tour and a special website.
Regarding the change of release date from April 24 to June 19, in an interview on SCHOOL OF LOCK! radio show, Ichiro explained, “—we were not able to compromise the lyrics and we needed a little more time to complete the album, so we decided to postpone the release date,” hence the delay.
