Visual kei band, Melvel (メルヴェル) has been around since early 2013, and behind this pastel and candy coloured band, is a story worthy of a TV drama. They have recently revealed a new look and two singles, so read on for more. The four members of this band are: vocalist HIME, guitarist Mirumo (みるも。), bassist Ryuu (りゅう。) and drummer Hyuoga (ひょうが。).
Initially, this band started with guitarist Miru (みる), who fell ill due to a respiratory disorder called HVS, also known as “hyperventilation syndrome” in September 2014. To continue activities, they had to find a replacement guitarist. His twin brother, Mirumo.

Their original drummer for Melvel, Kazuya departed after their live at Shibuya REX on January 18, 2015 and was replaced by hyouga (ひょうが) four days later.
In September 2015, it was announced that their bassist Ryuu attempted to commit suicide and was hospitalised. He later on publicised a comment apologising to fans, gave an update on his rehabilitation and hopes to re-join the Melvel in 2016 and play again in January 28, the same date for two of their upcoming singles. They have recently revealed a new look including Ryuu too, so let’s wish him the best of luck and hope he recovers.

Ending on a positive note, they will be releasing two new singles Hougou Nekoyasha (縫合ねこやしゃ) and Omochakoku Karakurism (玩具国からくりずむ) in January 28. These will be released at their one-man live Seizon Shazai-ka Nekoranbu Ichido shinda Meko o Emi Inasaimase (-生存謝罪 化猫乱舞 一度死ンダ猫ヲ笑イナサイマセ-) at HOLIDAY SHINJUKU.
