The English friendly web show about Japanese culture called Otaku Verse Zero (OVZ) gives an introduction of what BABYMETAL is in its 12th episode.
In short, the relatively new unit consists of three members from the Sakura Gakuin idol group who transitioned into this new sensation, mixing the greatest from pop and metal, and also Akihabara culture. The members consist of SU-METAL (vocal, dance), MOAMETAL (scream, dance), YUIMETAL (scream, dance). The end product is a unit that produces what they call “Kawaii METAL”.
In 2010, BABYMETAL was formed a unit on the theme of “Kawaii METAL” (The meaning is mix of J-POP IDOL and HEAVY METAL). The music video of “DOKI DOKI☆MORNIG” was published on YouTube, then access from overseas flooded with many comments shocked, and its presence have spread not only in Japan but also to overseas such as North America, South America, Europe and Asia.
