Chaidura unveiled earlier today the music video for the third single, Plastic Beauty, from the upcoming EP LIMINAL.
The new single Plastic Beauty expresses the liminal stage of self-love through a diverse range of musical influences, from aggressive metalcore with glitching electronics to subtle hints of jazz and gospel. Aiding the mixture of genres is a visual kei influence, with Chaidura revealing that the track HEADACHE MAN by the GazettE inspired parts of the track musically.
The visual kei spirit that encourages endless expression and non-conformity also fills the music video. Plastic Beauty‘s music video takes on lookism with thought-provoking imagery. The flashing and glitching of sounds and visuals evoke a sense of emotional turmoil around lookism. Emotionless masks are on the faces of the people who match society’s accepted version of perfect. Identical and motionless like robots, a label written on the masks is the only distinguishing feature separating them. Like a full moon emanating from the endless night sky, a woman dressed in pure snowy white attire emanates from the dim background, resisting the urge to conform and wear the mask of synthetic beauty.
LIMINAL, the title of the EP, refers to the chaotic in-between stage of the person you were and the person you’re becoming. Whereas the previous two singles, Addiction and Heaven, confront internal struggles for self-growth, Plastic Beauty encourages resistance against the views of the outside world in the pursuit of self-love.
