RAZOR released their 16th single In CREATURE on October 17 and, in turn, blessed fans with a music video full of religious motifs. There’s also vocalist Ryoga, chaotically expressing a gamut of emotions, front and center in the faces of his bandmates.
Those emotions have Ryoga, who is wearing a red monk robe, frenetically pacing and dancing, writhing, pulling the most menacing faces, and putting on the widest smile. Meanwhile, the rest sit and stay motionless and emotionless in their white outfits for the single, even when they themselves end up all lined up wearing black monk robes.
The play on religious themes, such as the use of the cross and wearing monk robes, goes hand in hand with singing Latin lyrics like a hymn. Then there’s the larger-than-life and beastly expression that bleeds over into the music. RAZOR’s performance brings brutal instrumentation, an abundance of synths, and layered growls.
A weathered wall partially covered in red drapes serves as the backdrop for them to wreak havoc as spotlights dance, and the unstable and out-of-focus camera captures the song’s explosive nature. The blurriness adds to the velocity, and the dimly-lit scenes, especially Ryoga’s menacing face under torchlight, tapping into the song’s darkness.
RAZOR opt for mostly white outfits with black detailing, giving off a sense of purity when the music is anything but that.
Praise be to RAZOR!
