On October 28, DIR EN GREY dropped a surprise announcement that their second album, MACABRE, will be reincarnated on vinyl for the first time.
The vinyl is available for preorder now and is set for release on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025. As with DIR EN GREY’s previous vinyl releases, MACABRE is only available in limited numbers while supplies last.
Originally released on September 20, 2000, a full quarter-century ago, MACABRE showcases DIR EN GREY’s early ambition through the singles Myaku, [KR] cube, and Taiyou no Ao. Each single arrived with an iconic music video, from the soft intensity of Taiyou no Ao, to the fractured-identity chaos of Myaku, to the secret agent club raid of [KR] Cube. Together, these videos cemented DIR EN GREY’s reputation for experimentation and bold world-building, making them one of Japan’s most daring exports. Even 25 years later, these videos linger in fans’ memories today.
At the time of writing, MACABRE holds #1 sales ranking on the music importing site CDJapan, surpassing even Kenshi Yonezu’s hit single IRIS OUT/JANE DOE for the anime Chainsaw Man. Grab your copy of MACABRE on vinyl while you still have the chance!
