millennium parade, a creative collective and music group featuring King Gnu’s vocalist and guitarist Daiki Tsuneta, will release their debut album THE MILLENNIUM PARADE on February 10. So what better way to showcase what listeners can expect with none other than an electrifying preview in the form of a road trip.
Here the collective is on a night drive with Daiki at the wheel while a preview of each song plays. This invokes all sorts of emotional responses as they sing, headbang, dance, laugh or calmly sit there. The energy is infectious regardless of what’s going on and it’s heartwarming seeing them all have a good time. The start of the video jokingly mentions to “not get too wild in your car” and to “Always be aware of your surroundings before you go crazy” and they weren’t kidding.
THE MILLENNIUM PARADE is built around the theme of “mourning what we have lost, and celebrating the new year to come”. It also showcases their eclectic range of influences by weaving together various genres such as jazz, rock, hip hop, electronic, and classical. This has created an album that is every bit as ethereal as it is grandiose and magical, immersing listeners into a world to get lost in.
Vocalist and returning collaborator ermhoi of Black Boboi populates the majority of the tracks with her soft, light, and soothing singing cementing the mood of the album. That’s not to discredit the other vocals performed though as they fit the atmosphere just as well. The interludes lean heavily into the upcoming song but don’t break the pacing. Everything about the millennium parade is cinematic, from their music videos, stage performance, right down to their music and execution has been brilliant through and through. This album is a great starting point for new listeners and those who are already fans will definitely enjoy it.
The tracklist includes digital singles Fly with me, the opening theme for anime GHOST IN THE SHELL: SAC_2045, lost and found, Philip, and Plankton. Tracks Bon Dance, 2992, and FAMILIA from the album have been pre-released on digital storefronts where you can already prepare to immerse yourself in the world they’ve created.
The album will hit stores in regular and two limited editions, all of which will contain 14 songs in total. The standard limited edition comes with a Blu-ray disc featuring four live songs taken from their Shinkiba STUDIO COAST performance in 2019. It also has six music videos starting from Veil and ending with Philip. Meanwhile, the collectible limited edition adds a cassette with selected tracks taken from DTMP’s (Daiki Tsuneta Millennium Parade) “http://” album and three original figures, all contained within a 12-inch box.
millennium parade formed in 2019 by organizer Daiki Tsuneta who assembled a team of musicians, film directors, visual effects artists, designers, and illustrators to bring this unique, multimedia concept to life. The project is inspired by Japanese folklore Hyakki Yagyo, translating to “The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons”. This tells the tale of supernatural creatures creating pandemonium as they parade through the streets of Japan and kill people who take even a slight look at them. Their brilliantly animated music videos use different mediums in the form of 3D and 2D animation to tell stories alongside their songs.
