Last month, shockwaves rumbled across FEMM’s fanbase when all of their social media posts and YouTube videos were deleted, replaced with a single video “Goodbye to FEMM1.0”. Their website showed a 404 error message, leading curious fans to wonder, what happened to FEMM? Were they hacked? Is the band taking a break?
A month has passed, and the mannequin rap duo is back with a bang, delivered by a brand new teaser for Level Up feat. Duke of Harajuku. Showcase their new 2.0 firmware patch for their upcoming double A-side single, Level Up/Summer Dream, the video features RiRi and LuLa with new dynamic poses and fluid humanlike motions.
Update on November 5: The music video is out now!
Visual wise, from the video we can see they’re taking a dip into modern R&B and hip-hop style of the video when it comes to the streetwear fashion, the poses, and use of lighting in an urban setting. This will all start to make sense when we find out that Tokyo-based independent label, tokyovitamin is behind the collaboration. This label draws on the international backgrounds of its various members for a borderless approach, which then leads to FEMM’s collaboration with trap artist, Duke of Harajuku for this city hip-hop release.
The new double A-side single is out in a couple of days on November 6 and contains two tracks, Level Up and Summer Dream. Whilst we’re sticking around for the full version to come out, at the moment, all we know is that the second track of this single Summer Dream feat. FEMM (S+ Ver.) is a new recording of the original from Duke of Harajuku’s original album RAZZLE DAZZLE. This new version has a new section to spice things up, but you can listen to the original on Spotify.
Fans seem to be excited by this new shiny 2.0 patch, but the archival of past videos has caused unrest in the fanbase who are requesting for them to be restored. Backward compatibility for our mannequins, right? Want to hedge a bet on if the old videos will come back? Leave your guesses in the comments below.
