SLOTHREAT’s first album THEMIS is out on September 25, released under ex-girugamesh Ryo’s new label. But before that, the band has pre-released second song ILLUMINATE, showcasing the members’ excellent abilities. They also followed it up with its respective music video full of glitchy, dreamy, and psychedelic visuals.
The anthemic start of ILLUMINATE and dirty riffage lead the band to show off their technical prowess with heavy instrumentation. A powerful and skillful intro that instantly convinces us that the best is yet to come. This paves the way for vocalist KAZ to lay down his strong and clean vocals with the lyrics providing us an insight into the worldview of the song.
Said lyrics, which can be found in the YouTube description of the song, seem to indicate that despite being alone, there is this urgency to go someplace else, even if that means leaving those you love behind. The main character also seems to be convincing someone that this is not the reality they should be living.
The visuals also have an interesting way of conveying the song’s title ILLUMINATE with the red circle imitating a solar eclipse. Then, as it nears the end of the song, it transitions to a blinding brightness that brings about a sense of hope.
