Royz’ “I AM WHAT I AM” music video sees bully offer a helping hand

Royz next single I AM WHAT I AM is due out on November 20 with the band already revealing not only a trailer covering a snippet of the songs but also a music video for I AM WHAT I AM!

Starting off with the music video, it sees the band members forming a line against a white wall for their performance as projection mapping is beamed onto them. This is while they interweave a story that focuses on bullying with a group of friends taking a video of a lone dancer and unsuspectingly uploading it to YouTube.

The dancer eventually finds out and sees the comments below meanwhile the friends laugh about the whole situation. However, one girl in this group evidently feels awful about it as her facial expression tells a thousand words. Regardless, this doesn’t discourage the dancer who continues forward in the face of adversary and its here the group encounters him for the second time in a park. Two of them cause him trouble by pushing him onto the floor but the same girl hangs back and watches on before lending a helping hand.

The song is melancholic but uplifting with its chanting chorus and use of English phrases by vocalist Subaru like “The darkest hours is just before the dawn” and “Wishing for daybreak in this world”. These lyrics stand out greatly and are effective.

To not disregard the other member’s role either but Tomoya’s drumming is cool and complex in the chorus that it contributes greatly to the emotion conveyed by Subaru.

Royz also delivered a trailer featuring the songs on the single starting with a snippet of I AM WHAT AM

It then transitions to the track Last Reactance and its synth-focused and heavy-sounding chorus. Next is cosmetic surgery that applies fantasy focused and funfair sound effects, making it a fun listen. BLESS is a ballad complete with synths and piano and the images associated really hit home what the song is about as it shows a couple holding hands.
