EGOIST’s mysterious countdown which started on October 27 finally reached its final moment earlier today, ending exactly at 09:00 JST, on November 1! The mystery revealed ended up being EGOIST’s upcoming and first best-of album titled GREATEST HITS 2011-2017 “ALTER EGO”, encompassing the best work of the duo’s six years of existence, all remastered. Look forward getting your hands on this December 27!
On October 27, EGOIST suddenly displayed a cryptic and mysterious countdown on their website that would reach its end on November 1, 09:00 JST. The countdown was coupled with a message “この歌が聴こえてる” which is a line from the song The Everlasting Guilty Crown. In context, the message loosely translates to “To those who can hear this song“.

Once the countdown reached zero, a grey text button was revealed: “CLICK HERE”. The page refreshed and a whole set of new material replaced the old content on the website, revealing the upcoming best-of album with a video preview of the music to come.
The new information revealed the four editions that are going to be sold, which three of them are limited editions. However, one of these limited editions is a bit more special than the others. With a price tag of 9500 yen—about twice the price of the other limited editions—you will receive a 10-piece dog tag set “EGOISTAG 2011-2017” with their avatar Inori on the print, illustrated by redjuice himself. This edition has seemed to get a lot of love from the fans seeing it is completely sold out on CDJapan as of writing—and it hasn’t even been 24 hours since it started going on sale.
GREATEST HITS 2011-2017 “ALTER EGO” will include many feature songs from praised anime series and movies, songs which are found in Fate/Apocrypha, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Psycho-Pass, Guilty Crown, and the three movies from Project Itoh.
Besides the album including remastered work of the duo’s best songs from these six years, they also decided to include an acoustic version of the previously released song, Departures ~anata ni okuru ainouta~; they simply named this new version: Departures ~anata ni okuru ainouta~ Acoustic Version, essentially making this track the only new material on the album.
