You may now experience the new and evolved Crossfaith on YouTube as the band graciously uploaded the entire album of the long awaited XENO! Listen to the album in the video playlist below!
XENO
This album is probably one of Crossfaith’s most controversial album to date! One of the more notable changes is their way they use of clean vocals. In previous albums, Crossfaith never involved clean vocals into their music in such manner, which might not sound like a big deal to some, but a lot of what made Crossfaith, well… “Crossfaith”, has now been overtaken by a pop sound which metalcore fans may find hard to accept. While this might have played a big part of the initial controversy, there is more to it now that the album is released. There is a drastic cut down in the electronics department; they’re at least more subtle now and the mix has instead changed its focus on pronouncing guitars and vocals, similar to their first album, The Artificial Theory For The Dramatic Beauty. Most of the songs in the past actually relied on the vivid electronic sound, that isn’t the case with XENO, and it makes me wonder if they’re trying to gradually cut off that part of the wagon?
Randomly jumping into a track such as Paint it Black will definitely raise questions like “Am I listening to Crossfaith or is this Breaking Benjamin?” whether that’s a good or a bad thing.
Before going too far off, XENO still retains a whole lot of Crossfaith’s signature sound while also adding beautiful symphonic elements to it. The album lives up to its name with the galactic electronic sound, just slightly different from what we’re used to hearing. Their edgy and cockiness remains in the majority of the songs: XENO, Raise Your Voice, Devil’s Party, and Dystopia just to mention a few.
