ASAGI revealed a music video with mythical visuals for “Tenringoku” (天輪獄). The single blazed into general release on July 3.
Drawing from folklore, ASAGI plays the role of a three-legged golden crow. Viewers are taken into the inner mind of the crow, who is a servant of the sun. ASAGI sports black wings and chains. Meanwhile, solar flares and other cosmic visuals lend a sense of scale.
This creature carries out an eternal duty—to capture sinners with its talons. English speakers can follow along with the storytelling with the subtitles provided.
Vocals are fierce, and suit the intimidating nature of their subject. However, the melody also takes on a sentimental quality as the crow’s lore unfolds. The music blends traditional Japanese elements, and features several guest musicians including HIROKI, previously of the rock band D, on drums.
“Tenringoku” is complementary to ASAGI’s first solo release, “Corvinus” from 2006. The two share similar themes, both exploring freedom and imprisonment. The video for “Corvinus” can also be found on YouTube here.
