All-female rock unit and Guinness Record setter SCANDAL released its 29th single Highlight no Nakade Bokura Zutto on October 4. Translating to “always in the highlights”, the up-tempo party anthem commemorates the band’s recent 17th anniversary and looks forward to more great times head. Lead guitarist MAMI pens the title track, with support from arranger Ryo Eguchi, who last worked with SCANDAL on 2016 tune Take me out.
Alongside the physical release, Highlight no Nakade Bokura Zutto bares a fresh music video. SCANDAL, donning blacked-out drip and vibrant signature instruments, plays on with a cool swagger. With nearly two decades of musical career in her belt, each member stands tall as a musical matriarch of the Jpop scene. Yet, vocalist HARUNA sings a tale of humility and acknowledges that the blessings and success stories don’t always last forever.
The CD also includes b-side CANDY, written by bassist TOMOMI. Akin to her previous compositions Laundry Laundry and Living in the city, the song hints at some wistful melancholy in an otherwise nonchalant shuffle. TOMOMI just plays this card so well. Producer Satori Shiraishi, who arranged SCANDAL’s 25th single eternal, joins for this one.
Fans can also rejoice over the launch of “her GALLERY” on the official website for “her”, SCANDAL’s self-owned label. The breathtaking portraiture shot by photographer Ryohei Obama celebrates both the new single and the band’s anniversary.
Both Highlight no Nakade Bokura Zutto and SCANDAL’s previous single Line of sight are available now via JPU Records. The latter comes coupled with b-side Vision, a slapping city pop dance beat written by drummer RINA.
