THE MADNA, or “The Madonna” as it’s pronounced, released their second EP Ugly heaven on March 9. However, the band didn’t do so without dropping a music video for the first track Tokyo BAD STREET KING beforehand.
It’s with this eccentric and bizarre Tokyo BAD STREET KING music video that a young man enters a house, one with a weirdly lit window seen from the outside. Here, he encounters a family of otherworldly beings distinguishable from one another, all reacting to the song in a stoic manner. However, what becomes of the young man by the end of the music video is most intriguing.
Track Tokyo BAD STREET KING opens up to be a symphonic and jazzy rap-rock number, complete with guitarist Takashi’s finger slapping and synth horns. Rolling out the grandiose sound with a rap twist makes the entire soundscape feel distinct.
The second EP Ugly heaven has a total of six songs including Tokyo BAD STREET KING. The EP also comes packaged with a DVD featuring three songs taken from their first gig titled “The Far Lip” on December 26 at Shinjuku BLAZE. Take a listen to the six songs in their preview.
A new release such as EP Ugly Heaven means new artist photos, and what the band produced is an anaglyph 3D effect on their photos, making the final product fuzzy and glitchy.
