Reaching the milestone of over half a century of life and 23 years of solo work, SUGIZO is set to drop his first solo live album titled LIVE IN TOKYO on September 30. If we take a closer look at the title of this album, we can see it is an homage to English post-punk band Public Image Ltd‘s “LIVE IN TOKYO” album. This was from their first concert in Japan—an album that SUGIZO avidly listened to in his youth. Eagle-eyed readers would have spotted the Public Image Ltd logo (which is often abbreviated to PIL) on his t-shirt on his latest promotional materials and album art, which goes to show how serious he is about this tribute to this band.

This 20 track album takes recordings from his first-ever birthday show HALF CENTURY ANNIVERSARY FES. at Nakano Sunplaza in 2019, featuring special guests Kyo from DIR EN GREY, Kiyoharu, and both TERU and TAKURO from GLAY. It comes in a regular 20 track edition as well as a deluxe edition. The deluxe version contains a Blu-ray of the live music videos and a special photo booklet that features a long interview in which you can find more information on the special LIVE IN TOKYO webpage.

We heard in the grapevine that he’ll be announcing information for his first solo streaming concert soon, so keep an eye out on his social media.
