HYDE’s latest album anti is now out digitally—since May 3—and will later be released in Japan on June 19. The expressive work is a 13-track album delivering elegant tunes but also balanced by HYDE’s raw vocals to give it that rock feel.
With HYDE putting full attention to his solo career for the first time in over a decade, we went in with big expectations when listening to the new album anti. This is the first full-length album we’ve seen from HYDE since 2006, with the previous one being Faith that KAZ (HYDE’s bandmate from VAMPS) had a big influence on.
Unlike Faith, album anti brings a wider range of influences as not only did HYDE collaborate with the legendary rock star YOSHIKI from X JAPAN, in Zipang, but has indeed brought in western artists such as Matt Brandyberry from the band “From Ashes To New”. Majority of the songs are also composed with the help of western songwriters to help HYDE appeal to the American market, and HYDE pushes that even further by singing in English throughout the entire album.
The result of this is a remarkably modern, elegant, and dramatic album that allows HYDE’s raw and violent vocals to shine. Which in turn allows the songs to feel sophisticated while still retaining a rebellious character. Dominating the album are the heavier rock songs, but you can expect mellow songs to appear as well, giving the album a more dynamic flow.
If you haven’t given this album a chance yet, now is the time! Stream it on Spotify or buy the album digitally at iTunes or Amazon, let us know what your verdict is in the comment section!
Don’t forget that HYDE is currently paving his way to the hearts of Americans through his on-going U.S. tour. You should definitely also have a look at our extensive interview with HYDE where he mentioned: “I’m committed to attacking the U.S. market for one last time as HYDE.”.
