THE MUSMUS「バイナリ」

We’re incredibly excited to see the disbanded band who once was named UPLIFT SPICE, announce their return as THE MUSMUS! That was however a few months ago, but just recently in November, the band released their music video featuring their second track binary, from the newly released mini-album PROLOGUE, released on December 2!

Clearly, the titling of the album indicates that THE MUSMUS is going nowhere, they’re here to stay and this is just the beginning! Even though the band is still intact, not everything is the same. Vocalist CHIO and guitarist YOOKEY is still here, but drummer Tobita and bassist Kenji is now out of the picture, replaced by SHINGO and KYOYA.

To me personally, the progressive drums had especially —not to disregard the bassist— a great impact in UPLIFT SPICE characteristic. With the current line-up, THE MUSMUS’ music does sound very similar to their previous releases (obviously cause two of the original members are still here), but it still doesn’t quite hit the bell in the right spot, to produce the frequency I’ve been longing for. The drums now are weak and boring in comparison, and doesn’t quite have the energetic life of its own, like in e.g. UPLIFT SPICE’s Irony.

Don’t get me wrong though, their music is still superb and super catchy! I would without hesitation recommend their new album PROLOGUE any day!

If you’re unfamiliar with UPLIFT SPICE or their disbandment, here is a brief recap:

Back in 2014, September, the punk rock band UPLIFT SPICE announced their disbandment stating that they would “cease its activities after the live show on September 27“. Which was quite surprising, as they just finished up their 10-gig EU-tour. Some fans thought their EU-tour was an indication of an ambitious world wide expansion, but was instead presented with a final message on the official website a few months later.

Below is a video trailer regarding the band’s transition from UPLIFT SPICE to THE MUSMUS.
