We found this video of Hyde covering Departures for the cover album, globe20th to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Jpop group globe. We instantly fell in love with this track, and it made us very curious to hear more covers by him. Have a listen to the preview video above and let us know what you think.
This preview of Departures has been out since the beginning of this month but has received over 830,000 views on avex’s YouTube. Other artists for globe20th includes queen of pop Ayumi Hamasaki, J-pop groups AAA, GReeeeN, Da-iCE and so much more. For those unfamiliar with globe, they are a Jpop band formed by producer and songwriter Tetsuya Komuro, joined later by Keiko Yamada and Marc Panther in 1995. Their most notable release, Globe, sold over 4 million copies and Wanna Be a Dreammaker won the Grand prix award at the 40th Japan Record Awards which is considered the Japanese record industry’s highest honor.
We’re sure that people would be surprised to hear that Yoshiki (X Japan) joined them on piano and keyboards in 2002. globe went on hiatus one year later and Yoshiki did not rejoin, with his one contribution of Seize the Light which can be listened to here.
