Feelings of agony and anxiety is something we all have faced at least once in our life. For some, these feelings becomes a monolith that cannot be lifted, but those who have strength enough, they will be able to walk right past it, knowing only the existence of it.

And this is a topic which amazarashi is never shy to talk about, as they try to express “the friction between the brevity of human life and the anxiety caused by it” in their newly released, second single, Speed and Friction. A song that reminds us of how short our lives really is, Speed, and used as a tool to set off sparks in our lives to finally live it, Friction.

The music video is filmed in a bathroom stall where light shines through a wall of cut out lyrics, as two representative dancers showcases a contemporary dance.

You may have noticed how amazarashi’s recent music videos—since digging holes—uses technological means to convey messages. It’s quite interesting since their target demographic seeks to technology and the internet as a way to escape the pressure the society brings. It’s currently a big issue in Japan, which is why these common terms like hikikomori (withdrawn), NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) are such integrated into the Japanese’s vocabulary. There is even a place in Japan referred to as the “Suicide Forest” and also a specific page on Wikipedia called “Suicide in Japan“.

amazarashi’s Speed and Friction will be available starting August 19 and has been adapted into the anime series  “Game of Laplace” as the opening song.
