Once again, Jrock shakes up America at Aftershock Festival 2022 with three amazing bands from Japan. The festival happening at Discovery Park in Sacramento, California will see Crossfaith and NEMOPHILA perform on October 7, and then BAND-MAID on October 9.
Previously the outdoor event had appearances by ONE OK ROCK in 2015 and BABYMETAL in 2019. Normally, this annual festival takes place every October except in 2020 when canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, things got back on track and now 2022 is back in a big way with an all-star lineup! In addition to these Jrock bands, there will be performances by Slipknot, KISS, My Chemical Romance, Evanescence, Judas Priest, Bring Me the Horizon, and many more.

Crossfaith
This metalcore band from Osaka is known for technically mastering electronica with heavy metal and making inventive industrial metal. Since forming in 2006, they have maintained the same lineup: vocalist Kenta Koie, guitarist Kazuki Takemura, bassist Hiroki Ikegawa, drummer Tatsuya Amano, and keyboardist Terufumi Tamano. Plus, they are no stranger to the festival circuit having done Vans Warped Tour (UK 2012, US 2013, and US 2015), Download Fest (2014), Hellfest (2014), and others. They also opened for Bring Me the Horizon on their Australian Tour in 2013. Their recent release Gimme Danger! is an action-packed banger for the 30th anniversary of the shounen manga Baki.
NEMOPHILA
While getting their start early in 2020, the timing was unfortunate due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, they found a way to make a name for themselves and entertain people with imaginative song covers on their YouTube channel. Now having released their first full album, REVIVE, to a worldwide audience, these ladies are radiating heavy metal energy. Check out our chat with vocalist mayu, guitarist Saki, guitarist Hazuki, bassist Haraguchi-san, and drummer Tamu Murata when we spoke about their popular release OIRAN – EXTENDED EDITION. Finally, get a dose of them now with the release of Houzuki (鬼灯).
BAND-MAID
This hard rock unit from Tokyo gets more popular every year since forming in 2013. Their maid costumes may signal “cuteness”, but their metal flavored sound hammers the senses like a Fireball whisky shot. The combined talent of vocalist Saiki, vocalist and guitarist Miku Kobato, guitarist Kanami, bassist MISA, and drummer Akane is a jaw-dropping delight. And their American tour set for October is selling out fast! Can’t wait until then? Blow off some steam while listening to After Life.
Unfortunately, the Foo Fighters, who were scheduled as headliners for Sunday, have canceled due to the tragic passing of their drummer, Taylor Hawkins.
