The first official trailer of the Netflix movie “Kate” reveals an action-packed story that takes place in a Japanese setting. As such, we are able to observe a handful of Japanese actors alongside protagonist Mary Elizabeth (from “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”), and Woody Harrelson (from “Bunraku”, featuring GACKT).
Notably, for us Japanese rock fans, the ones who caught our attention immediately were of course MIYAVI and BAND-MAID!
Judging from the trailer, MIYAVI’s role is prominent and respectable enough to receive a fight scene with Mary Elizabeth who plays the character Kate. His face—and even back tattoos—can clearly be seen brightly.
As for BAND-MAID, they appear in their usual shape as a band and set the mood in an underground concert, standing as the centerpiece.
See if you can catch them in the trailer before we list all the moments below!
After she’s poisoned, a ruthless criminal operative has less than 24 hours to exact revenge on her enemies and in the process forms an unexpected bond with the daughter of one of her past victims. There’s no time for mercy.
Let’s begin with BAND-MAID as they appear first and are performing on stage, from 01:04 to 01:05.

MIYAVI appears twice rapidly between 01:18 and 01:19, this is where his face and tattoos are shown.
- Smug MIYAVI.
- MIYAVI’s tattoos include his thoughts and lyrics. For those who aren’t aware, these are his real tattoos.
And lastly, the fight scene between MIYAVI and protagonist Kate happens from 01:25 to 01:26.

It isn’t the first time we see MIYAVI appear on higher-profile movies. Not only have we seen him in “Maleficent 2“, but also in the iconic “Kong: Skull Island”.
My personal favorite is still his role in the live-action movie Bleach, where he totally kicks ass! If you’re also a fan of it, make sure to read our interview with MIYAVI where he talked about his role in Bleach.
