MIYAVI was recently featured in a video at GQ Japan, a men’s magazine with a focus on fashion and culture. The samurai guitarist was invited to talk about 10 essential things in his life, among wireless earbuds, powerbanks, and guitars, surprisingly a black carry-on suitcase made it into the list. The suitcase by itself wasn’t surprising, but rather the interesting backstory where MIYAVI revealed how he was persuaded to buy the suitcase with only one phrase.
MIYAVI explained that he had arrived early at an airport one day and happened to pass by a TUMI store, a specialized store in travel bags. After pondering for 90 minutes of whether to purchase such a luxurious suitcase or not, he was finally talked into buying it with a little push.
The store’s general manager passed by and softly said: “This one suits you well, doesn’t it?”. And with that simple phrase, MIYAVI couldn’t hold his urge anymore and bought it! You can watch this portion of the video starting at 04:39.
MIYAVI also promoted his latest album Holy Nights in the video which is now available physically and on digital platforms! It’s a really catchy album with lots of interesting and experimental sounds that we haven’t seen MIYAVI explore until now. (I hope that was enough talking to get you to check it out.), English subtitles available.
