It has unfortunately been announced on MERRY’s official website that after 19 years, guitarist Kenichi will leave MERRY after their final performance together in May.
The announcement was also made via MERRY’s YouTube channel with vocalist Gara stating that the lineup has remained unchanged since its formation in 2001.
However, they reassured fans that the four remaining members will continue band activities, but before that happens, the band has revealed the dates for their last tour with Kenichi titled Merry 5 Sheep Last Tour. This will start from Akabane ReNY alpha on March 21 and finish at Nakano ZERO Hall on May 16.
Kenichi has also expressed in a separate video that he’s sorry to everyone who supported him but he wouldn’t have made it this far without them. He also wants everyone to keep on supporting MERRY.
It is very unexpected that a member would leave after 19 years so it will no doubt feel different that fans won’t be able to see him perform anymore. However, on the bright side, MERRY will continue, but it will be interesting to see where they go from here.
Their last release with Kenichi was mini-album for Japanese sheeple released on April 17, 2019. They also have artist photos to accompany the announcement which you can see below.
