This summer, delight comes in the form of Codomo Dragon’s newest single, Dokumushi (毒虫). Judging from the music video preview, it seemed as if the band was calling back to an earlier song of theirs, Right Evil, with their familiar white outfits and performing in a red-tinted setting. However, the five-member group surprised fans once more by experimenting with several new sounds, proving the new single worth listening to.
The title track, Dokumushi, captures their notable energetic sound, with implementations of synth beats. However, what made this tune was the sudden and intense breakdown during the middle of the song. It gives off an invigorating feeling that engages fans to hold onto their excitement for the following songs.
The second track, Suisou, begins with a slower tempo that later progresses into a faster, punk-rock like sound. To add on, we hear vocalist Hayato use autotune vocals, giving off an eerie vibe that this band is successful with expressing.
The C-track single, BONEHEAD, blends harmonic melodies with rambunctious riffs, making for a pleasantly diverse song. Following this dynamic tune is the equally entertaining D-track song, Mendoukusai no Uta. It concludes the tracklist with an upbeat, groovy feeling that once more left us impressed with this band’s skills.
